Boxoffy ("we", "us") operates boxoffy.com, a box-office intelligence publication covering the Indian and North American theatrical markets. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.
We have written this in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we will clarify it.
The short version
We do not sell your data. We do not require an account to read anything. Analytics and advertising cookies load only after you accept them — if you decline or ignore the banner, no tracking script runs. The only personal data we ever store is an email address, and only if you hand it to us for the newsletter or a contact form.

We do not collect payment details, government identifiers, precise location, or any special-category data. We do not build advertising profiles of individual readers ourselves.
2. Cookies and consent
Boxoffy loads no analytics or advertising cookie until you press Accept on the cookie banner. This is enforced in code, not by policy — the scripts are conditionally injected and simply do not exist in the page otherwise.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's site data for boxoffy.com. The banner will reappear and you can decline.
Categories we use
- Strictly necessary — the consent flag itself. Always active, cannot be disabled, holds no identifier.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (property
G-K6C9EVRFH4), IP anonymisation on. Consent required. - Advertising — Google AdSense and its partners, where advertising is active on the page. Consent required.
3. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation. We look at aggregate patterns: which articles are read, which charts are used, roughly where readers are. We do not attempt to identify individual readers and the reports we see do not name anyone.
4. Advertising
Boxoffy may display advertising, including through Google AdSense. Where it is active:
- Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of third-party vendor cookies more broadly at aboutads.info/choices.
- Third-party vendors we have not contracted with may still appear as part of Google's network. We do not control which advertisers Google serves.
If you have not accepted cookies, no advertising script loads, and any advertising shown is non-personalised.
Editorial independence
Advertising has no influence on Boxoffy's coverage. Advertisers do not see figures before publication, do not review copy, and cannot change, soften or delay a verdict or a prediction. Where we run a direct-sold campaign for a specific title, that campaign does not appear on any page forecasting or grading that title, and the advertiser is disclosed by name.
5. Newsletter
Our newsletter runs on Mailchimp. If you subscribe, your email address is stored there. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you immediately. We do not sell, rent or share the list.
6. Who else sees data
We share data only with the service providers required to run the site: Google (Analytics, AdSense), Mailchimp (newsletter), Vercel (hosting, which processes standard server logs), and EmailJS (contact form delivery, where enabled). Each processes data under its own privacy policy.
We may disclose data if required by law. We will never sell it.
7. How long we keep it
- Analytics — retained by Google under its standard retention settings, in aggregate form.
- Newsletter email — until you unsubscribe.
- Contact messages — up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Consent flag — stored locally in your browser until you clear it.
8. Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and under the GDPR if you are in the UK or EU, you can ask us to confirm what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw consent. Since the only personal data we hold is an email address you gave us, in practice this usually means unsubscribing or emailing us to be removed.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the form on the site. We respond within 30 days.
9. Children
Boxoffy is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International readers
Boxoffy is operated from India. Our service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. By using the site you accept that your data may be processed outside your country of residence.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
