When we closed Week 1 on April 23, our BCM projected a lifetime range of ₹130–145 Cr India nett at the optimistic end. As of Day 25, the BCM 13-source reconciled India net stands at ~₹156 Cr (₹153–160 Cr confidence band) — past our bull case by ₹11 Cr+, with the run still alive. The model was conservative. The audience kept showing up. Source spread on D25 is wide — Pinkvilla at ₹151–155 Cr, Sacnilk at ₹160 Cr, Koimoi at ₹177 Cr — so we publish the reconciled consensus, not a single-source headline. Here's the verified picture and the methodology behind it.
Original ₹130–145 Cr ceiling was based on a λ=0.74 decay constant calibrated to Sitaare Zameen Par. Bhooth Bangla's actual decay turned out closer to λ=0.64 — significantly slower than expected. Fourth-week footfalls (W4 Sat ₹3 Cr, Sun ₹4 Cr) confirmed a level of family repeat-viewing the comparable model didn't account for. Trade now expects ₹3–5 Cr W5 against Pati Patni Aur Woh Do screen pressure starting May 15.
Day 25 box office reads are wider apart than usual across sources — a ~₹36 Cr spread between the lowest (Bollywood Hungama, stale by ~5 days at ₹140.70 Cr) and the highest (Koimoi at ₹177.06 Cr). Sacnilk leads with ₹160.10 Cr; Pinkvilla's two reads bracket ₹151–155 Cr. When five aggregators all echo Sacnilk's number, that's one source replicated five times, not five confirmations. BCM reconciles by weighting independent sources only, applying recency decay (5%/day), and deflating known hot-bias outliers. Below is the actual math:
| Source | India Net | Weight | Recency | BCM Treatment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sacnilk | ₹160.10 Cr | 1.00 | 1.00 | Primary day-wise · runs hot on Hindi historically · ×0.95 deflator |
| Pinkvilla (W4 Sun) | ₹151.00 Cr | 1.00 | 0.90 | Independent trade read · accepted at face value |
| Pinkvilla (W4 Mon proj) | ₹155.00 Cr | 1.00 | 0.95 | Pinkvilla's own W4 close projection |
| Koimoi | ₹177.06 Cr | 0.95 | 0.95 | OUTLIER HIGH · ×0.92 hot-bias deflator → ₹162.90 Cr |
| Bollywood Hungama | ₹140.70 Cr | 1.00 | 0.75 | STALE · ~5 days old · recency decay applied |
| Asianet Newsable | ₹158.85 Cr | 0.70 | 0.95 | D24 read · aggregator quality · delta cross-check only |
| The Week, B'wood Bubble, BizUpturn, iwmbuzz, Filmibeat | all ₹160.10 Cr | 0.00 | — | EXCLUDED · Sacnilk echoes (same source, not independent) |
| BCM Reconciled | ~₹156 Cr | — | — | Band ₹153–160 Cr · 87% confidence |
Formula: Σ(Source × Weight × Recency × LanguageDeflator) / Σ(Weight × Recency) across independent sources only. Outlier rule: Koimoi historical hot bias on Hindi cumulatives → ×0.92. Sacnilk deflator: half-strength ×0.95 since BH's contradicting low is stale. Echo rule: aggregators citing Sacnilk as their source contribute zero independent weight — listed for transparency. The ₹160.10 Cr Sacnilk figure is the upper-band of our reconciliation, not the consensus headline.

Period totals are BCM-reconciled where source spreads exist. W1 used Taran Adarsh + Bollywood Hungama consensus (₹89.45 Cr). W2–W3 weighted across Sacnilk + Pinkvilla + Koimoi (deflated). Trade expects ₹3–5 Cr W5 against Pati Patni Aur Woh Do screen pressure beginning May 15.
At ~₹244 Cr worldwide (BCM-reconciled), Bhooth Bangla is now the 8th highest-grossing film of Akshay Kumar's career. It has already surpassed his other major hits — Airlift (₹228 Cr, 2016), OMG 2 (₹221 Cr, 2023), Rustom (₹216 Cr, 2016) and Kesari (₹209 Cr, 2019) — and still has runway through Week 5. Ahead of it sit Akshay's career peaks: 2.0 (₹691 Cr, Tamil-led), Toilet (₹317 Cr), Good Newwz (₹316 Cr), Housefull 4 (₹296 Cr), Sooryavanshi (₹293 Cr), Mission Mangal (₹290 Cr), and Housefull 5 (₹289 Cr). Three signals matter beyond the ranking.
| Rank | Akshay Film | Year | WW Gross | Release Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| #1 | 2.0 | 2018 | ₹691 Cr | Tamil-led · supporting |
| #2 | Toilet: Ek Prem Katha | 2017 | ₹317 Cr | Independence Day |
| #3 | Good Newwz | 2019 | ₹316 Cr | Christmas/NY |
| #4 | Housefull 4 | 2019 | ₹296 Cr | Diwali |
| #5 | Sooryavanshi | 2021 | ₹293 Cr | Diwali |
| #6 | Mission Mangal | 2019 | ₹290 Cr | Independence Day |
| #7 | Housefull 5 | 2025 | ₹289 Cr | Diwali |
| #8 | Bhooth Bangla ✅ | 2026 | ~₹244 Cr (D25) | Non-Holiday 🎯 |
| #9 | Airlift | 2016 | ₹228 Cr | Republic Day |
| #10 | OMG 2 | 2023 | ₹221 Cr | Independence Day |
| #11 | Rustom | 2016 | ₹216 Cr | Independence Day |
| #12 | Kesari | 2019 | ₹209 Cr | Holi |
Signal 1 — The non-holiday April opener. Look at the release-type column above. Of the seven Akshay films ranked above Bhooth Bangla, every single one had either a holiday window (Diwali, Independence Day, Christmas/NY) or a Tamil-original release (2.0). Bhooth Bangla is the highest-grossing non-holiday opener of Akshay's career by a meaningful margin. The opening weekend ₹58 Cr came on a normal April weekend without a national festival window propping up footfalls — a stronger commercial signal than the ranking number alone suggests.
Signal 2 — The post-pandemic reset. Akshay's 2021–2024 run included multiple underperformers (Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Selfiee, Cuttputlli). 2025 brought three decent grossers but no HIT verdicts. Bhooth Bangla is his first clear HIT in over four years by trade definition — Pinkvilla, Koimoi, and Glamsham all explicitly use that framing. The 14-year Priyadarshan reunion worked exactly as intended: restoring Akshay's comedy brand without leaning on franchise IP or a tentpole slot.
Signal 3 — The 2026 industry ranking. Per Wikipedia's 2026 tally, Bhooth Bangla is the 4th highest-grossing Indian film of 2026 and the 3rd highest-grossing Hindi film of 2026 — behind only Dhurandhar 2 and Border 2. Per Koimoi, it's also now the 4th highest-grossing Indian horror-comedy ever globally, ahead of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. That's serious company for a horror-comedy with no IP backing and a mid-tier ₹120 Cr budget.
"Bhooth Bangla maintained a strong hold on its 4th Monday... heading to close its entire theatrical run around Rs. 165 crore nett at the Indian box office. The horror comedy has already turned out to be a Clean Hit venture."
"Bhooth Bangla was made on a budget of 120 crore. Against this cost, it has earned an estimated 171.71 crore net. In 23 days, it has recorded a return on investment (ROI) of 51.71 crore, which equals 43.09% returns. As per Koimoi's parameters, it has secured a plus verdict at the Indian box office."
"After 25 days, Bhooth Bangla has reached a worldwide gross of Rs 243.12 crore... currently the 8th highest-grossing Akshay Kumar film globally, having recently surpassed Airlift (Rs 228 crore) and OMG 2 (Rs 221 crore)."
"For Akshay Kumar, the success of Bhooth Bangla comes after a difficult period at the box office following the pandemic. Last year showed some improvement, with three films performing decently, although none of them reached HIT status. Bhooth Bangla has now become his first clear HIT in recent times."
"My first 100 crore film. Grateful beyond words to @priyadarshan, @akshaykumar, @ektarkapoor... along with the entire cast and crew who believed in this film and gave it everything. Bhooth Bangla is as much yours as it is ours. And to the audience — thank you for seeing it, feeling it, and slowly making space for it... and for me. 🙏🏽"
Our April 23 BCM closed Week 1 at ₹89 Cr (called within 1%) and projected a lifetime base case of ₹138 Cr with a ₹145 Cr ceiling. The film passed ₹138 Cr on Day 18 (BCM-reconciled) and the ceiling of ₹145 Cr around Day 20. Two weeks later it has cleared both by ₹11 Cr+ and is still adding.
What the model missed: we calibrated against Sitaare Zameen Par (λ=0.57) and Housefull 5 (λ=0.82), landing at λ=0.74. The actual decay turned out closer to λ=0.64 — the film held W2 at ~46% of W1 (we'd projected ~33%), and W3 retained ~48% of W2. That kind of family-comedy repeat-viewing pattern in weeks 2–3 was outside the comparable model's expected range. Priyadarshan's 14-year reunion narrative kept driving families back for second viewings well past the typical comedy-genre fall-off curve.
BCM v1.2 calibration: adding a "Priyadarshan + Akshay co-occurrence factor" to the decay model. Historical pairings (Hera Pheri, De Dana Dan, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag) all showed unusually flat W2–W3 curves. The pattern was real; our model didn't see it because we only used 2025 comparables. Lesson logged for the next horror-comedy or Priyadarshan release.
